Animal Chess (Dou Shou Qi, Jungle Chess) is a traditional Chinese game played on a seven by nine board. No information is yet available about the history of this curious game. It may be a development of Chinese Chess comparable to Draughts in Europe.
Each player has eight animals: Elephant, Lion, Tiger, Panther, Wolf, Dog, Cat, and Rat with strengths or powers of 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1, respectively. A more powerful animal can eat a weaker one.
The goal is either to move any of one’s animals into the opponent’s den or eat all of his/her animals.
